DMAIC | Analyse Phase
The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) model is the core tool of the Six Sigma methodology. All the DMAIC steps are required and are always carried out in the given order. This page covers the Analyse phase.
The Analyse Phase is the third stage of the DMAIC model.
The purpose of this stage is to identify, validate and select root causes for elimination. The measurements and data collected during the Measure Phase (Stage 2) are analysed to confirm if they are consistent with the problem definition and if they identify a root cause.
It is important to note that the Measure Phase (Stage 2) and Analyse Phase are closely related and may be iterative.
Deliverables of Analyse Phase
– Identify sources of variation
– Determine root cause(s)
– Perform Capability Analysis

– Analysis tools
– Process Mapping
– Statistical Analysis
– Root Cause Analysis
– Cause and Effect / Fishbone / Ishikawa Diagram
– 5 Whys
– Hypothesis testing
– Pareto Analysis
